Maldives to showcase tourism and culture at Belgrade Expo 2027
Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC) has officially confirmed that the Maldives will take part in Belgrade Expo 2027, a global showcase that will bring together nations from around the world.
The formal agreement was signed in Belgrade by VMC Managing Director Ibrahim Shiuree following the Second Annual Planning Meeting for the event, signaling a move from preliminary discussions to active preparations for the Maldives’ participation.
The Expo will run from 15 May to 15 August 2027 in Belgrade, Serbia, with organisers expecting more than 120 participating countries and over four million visitors over its 93-day programme.
Held under the theme “Play for Humanity: Sport and Music for All,” Expo 2027 will explore how play, sport, and music can drive cooperation, cultural exchange, and innovation, with sub-themes such as Play for Progress, Play Together, and The Power of Play guiding national pavilions and events.
For the Maldives, the Expo is seen as a strategic platform to deepen its visibility in the Balkan region and the wider European market, with plans to showcase the country’s tourism offerings, environmental conservation work, and cultural identity.
Following the signing, Shiuree noted that preparations are being coordinated with multiple government agencies to ensure the Maldives presents a cohesive national image.
Visit Maldives will now collaborate with Expo organisers and domestic stakeholders to design the country’s pavilion and programme, highlighting tourism, culture, and environmental initiatives to a global audience.
