No country allowed to use Maldivian airspace for military attacks: Minister Khaleel
Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Khaleel has affirmed that the Maldives will not allow its airspace to be used by any nation to launch military strikes in connection with the ongoing tensions involving Israel, the United States, and Iran.
The Minister made the remarks during a press conference held by a special committee established by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to assess developments related to the unrest in the Middle East.
At the briefing, Khaleel clarified that Maldivian airspace has neither been used nor approved for military operations targeting any country.
He noted that while certain parties had requested permission to utilize the nation’s airspace for such purposes, the Government has consistently declined these requests.
Khaleel reiterated that the Maldives maintains a clear position on the matter, assuring that no country has been granted authorization to use Maldivian airspace to carry out attacks.
I would like to inform you that we are rejecting such requests as they arise. I can assure you that no country has been granted permission to utilize Maldivian airspace for such purposes
Minister Khaleel stated
The Minister also addressed the potential economic implications of the evolving situation in the Middle East, stating that the Government is carefully monitoring how the developments may affect the Maldivian economy.
He emphasized that safeguarding the country’s food security remains a top priority, adding that authorities are working to strengthen measures to ensure uninterrupted supplies of essential goods.
