The Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development has assured that the government will take all necessary measures to ensure the safety and welfare of Maldivian students currently studying in countries affected by the escalating conflict in the Middle East.

In a statement released today, the ministry said it is deeply concerned about the well‑being of Maldivian students in the region and is closely monitoring developments.

It said officials are in continuous contact with relevant authorities, diplomatic missions and educational institutions to provide assistance and support wherever needed.

The ministry stressed that the safety of Maldivian students remains its highest priority and reiterated that it stands ready to take appropriate actions to safeguard them during this challenging period.

Parents and students have been encouraged to remain in touch with Maldivian missions and to follow instructions issued by local authorities in their countries of residence.

The government has also moved to coordinate its wider response to the crisis. President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on Saturday formed a Special Cabinet Committee to oversee the impact of the Middle East tensions on Maldivians at home and abroad, and to implement joint measures in case citizens face difficulties due to the situation.

The escalation in the Middle East has seen intensified military operations involving Iran, the United States and Israel, prompting governments across the region to issue safety advisories and, in some cases, shift schools and universities to distance learning as a precaution.
