Maldives President forms Special Cabinet Committee in response to ongoing Middle East Tensions

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has established a Special Cabinet Committee in response to the ongoing tensions in the Middle East, aimed at coordinating measures to support Maldivians affected by the situation.

In a post on X tonight, Heena Waleed, Chief Spokesperson at the President’s Office, confirmed that the committee was formed to implement joint actions addressing potential challenges faced by Maldivians abroad amid escalating regional instability.

The committee, constituted earlier today, includes senior officials from key ministries:

1. Dr Abdulla Khaleel, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Committee Chair)

2. Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon, Ministry of Defence

3. Moosa Zameer, Ministry of Finance and Planning

4. Mohamed Saeed, Ministry of Economic Development and Trade

5. Mohamed Ameen, Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation

6. Ali Ihusaan, Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology

7. Thoriq Ibrahim, Ministry of Tourism and Environment

8. Dr Ali Haidar Ahmed, Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development

9. Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, Ministry of Islamic Affairs

The spokesperson added that the ministries involved will maintain regular communication with the public, sharing updates and relevant information as the situation develops.

The move comes as the government continues to monitor the unfolding crisis in the Middle East and implement measures to safeguard Maldivians both at home and abroad.
