Fatal Motorcycle crash claims 16-Year-old’s life in Malé
A 16-year-old boy has died following a serious motorcycle accident that occurred early this morning on Boduthakurufaanu Magu in Malé.
According to the Maldives Police Service, authorities received a report at approximately 1:39 a.m. regarding a motorcycle that had lost control while traveling at high speed.
The vehicle reportedly veered off and crashed onto the pavement near the bridge traffic lights along Boduthakurufaanu Magu.
Police confirmed that the motorcycle was being driven by a 19-year-old Maldivian male, with the 16-year-old riding as a passenger.
Both individuals sustained injuries in the collision and were immediately transported to hospital for medical treatment.
Despite efforts to save him, the 16-year-old passenger succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
Preliminary information shared by police indicates that the rider did not hold a valid driving licence for the motorcycle at the time of the accident.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
