Man sought for questioning over alleged anti-Islam remarks online

Maldives Police Service has issued a public notice seeking the whereabouts of an individual accused of making derogatory remarks about Islam on social media platforms.

According to police, the individual identified as Ahmed Amir (51), of H. Filikurige, Malé, is under investigation for comments made during a live broadcast on TikTok.

Authorities allege that he mocked fundamental tenets of Islam, including remarks ridiculing the practice of circumcision.

Police stated that the case forms part of an ongoing investigation into statements circulated online that allegedly insulted the religion, undermined religious unity among Maldivian citizens, and called for the abolition of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs.

Authorities further noted that attempts to serve a summons have been unsuccessful, as his current whereabouts remain unknown.

He has been instructed to present himself at the Sergeant Adam Haleem Criminal Investigation Building at 4:00 PM on the 10th of next month in connection with the investigation.
