The Maldives Zakat House has commenced the collection of Fitr Zakat through cash and card payments, providing an alternative for individuals who are unfamiliar with making payments online.

In Malé, dedicated counters have been established at the Islamic Centre Conference Hall, where members of the public can settle their Fitr Zakat in person. According to the Zakat House, collections at the counters will take place from 22 February to 9 March between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on working days.

From 10 March to 19 March, payments will be accepted daily except Fridays and Saturdays, between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

In the atolls, those who are not accustomed to online transactions may visit their respective local council offices to make payments. Councils will utilize a specially developed “Fitr Portal” to process Zakat contributions made in cash or grain.

The Zakat House stated that when individuals make payments at council offices or the Islamic Centre, authorized staff will immediately record the transaction in the portal. Upon completion, contributors will receive an instant SMS confirming the amount paid as Fitr Zakat.

If any additional amount is given as Sadaqah, the message will reflect that amount separately.

While physical collection services began today, the Zakat House has been accepting Fitr Zakat online since the first day of Ramadan.

This year, arrangements have been made to facilitate payments through seven digital platforms.
