A Bangladeshi national has been remanded in custody for 30 days following his arrest in connection with an alleged kidnapping incident in Malé.

The Maldives Police Service stated that authorities received a report of the case at approximately 1:22 a.m on Friday.

Acting swiftly on the information, officers located the victim at around 2:29 a.m. inside a residence in Malé City, where he was allegedly being held.

Police identified the suspect as 35-year-old Iqbal Mia, a Bangladeshi national.

According to authorities, he was residing in the Maldives without legal documentation at the time of his arrest.

Police have confirmed that investigations into the matter are ongoing.
