Domestic flight operations to shift to Terminal 2 at VIA
Domestic air travel at Velana International Airport (VIA) is set to receive a significant boost as all domestic flight operations are shifted to Terminal 2.
According to an official from Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), the decision has been made to consolidate all domestic services within Terminal 2 following a series of structural modifications and renovation works carried out at the facility.
The airport’s new international terminal, Terminal 1, was inaugurated during last year’s Independence Day celebrations.
Equipped with modern infrastructure and upgraded passenger amenities, international flight operations were gradually transitioned to Terminal 1 through a phased approach.
With international services now fully operating from the new terminal, Terminal 2 has been repurposed to exclusively handle domestic travel.
A special ceremony to mark the transition is scheduled for tomorrow, with Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef attending as the guest of honor.
Following the ceremony, all domestic passengers will access services through Terminal 2.
The move is expected to enhance convenience for travelers and streamline operations, further strengthening domestic connectivity across the Maldives.
