Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has launched the “Velana Awards,” a prestigious new recognition programme aimed at honouring excellence within the Maldives’ aviation sector.

In a statement, MACL said the awards are designed to acknowledge the contributions of key stakeholders who play a vital role in strengthening air connectivity and enhancing service quality through Velana International Airport (VIA).

The initiative marks the first award programme of its kind dedicated specifically to the country’s aviation industry.

MACL noted that the Velana Awards seek to recognise the continued efforts of its partners in supporting the Maldives’ position as a leading destination for both travellers and businesses.

The company also announced plans to make the awards an annual event to consistently celebrate outstanding performance and service standards across the sector.

This year’s awards will feature 22 honours across three main categories: Passenger Awards, Cargo Awards and Lounge Awards.

In addition, a special award will be presented to the airline recognised as the most outstanding carrier of the year.

According to MACL, the inaugural Velana Awards ceremony is scheduled to be held on Thursday night, 12 September, at Crossroads Maldives, with senior aviation officials and key industry partners expected to attend.
