President Dr. Muizzu departs for Germany on official visit
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has departed for the Federal Republic of Germany on an official visit scheduled from 9 to 13 February 2026, undertaken at the invitation of German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
During the visit, President Muizzu is expected to hold high-level discussions with President Steinmeier and senior officials of the German government.
The official programme also features a business forum aimed at deepening economic cooperation and expanding trade and investment opportunities between the Maldives and Germany.
As part of the visit, the President will travel to Berlin to engage with academic and policy institutions.
According to President's Office he is scheduled to speak at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin on the Maldives’ experiences and strategies in climate change adaptation.
Additionally, he is also set to address the German Council on Foreign Relations, where he will outline the Maldives’ perspective on the role of the ocean in shaping foreign policy.
The official visit coincides with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Germany, which were formally established on 5 July 1966, underscoring the long-standing ties between the two nations.
