President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has officially introduced a landmark specialised health insurance scheme tailored specifically for athletes, extending vital medical coverage to 385 athletes and officials representing 18 national sports associations throughout the Maldives.

The announcement was shared earlier today via a post on the President’s X account, confirming that all necessary arrangements have been finalised to provide comprehensive protection for the nation’s sporting talent.

This initiative ensures full health insurance coverage for injuries sustained not only during domestic competitions but also at international tournaments and overseas training programmes.

By addressing a critical gap in athlete welfare, the scheme offers financial and medical security, enabling sports representatives to focus on performance without the burden of treatment costs.

The move underscores the administration’s ongoing commitment to nurturing sports development across the country, supporting both elite competitors and grassroots participants from diverse associations.
