President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu issued a World Cancer Day message recognizing the courage of cancer patients and the resilience of their families, while spotlighting major progress in bringing life saving treatment closer to atoll communities.

The President acknowledged the unique challenges faced by Maldivian families, including emotional burdens and financial strains from rising cancer cases.

He detailed strides under the National Cancer Control Plan 2022-2026, which focuses on prevention, early diagnosis, treatment, and palliative care through measures like the national cancer registry, improved primary healthcare, tobacco control, and international partnerships.

A key highlight was the January 2026 launch of chemotherapy services at Un’goofaaru Regional Hospital,  the fourth facility outside Malé to offer such treatment, marking a significant step to deliver essential oncology care directly to patients and reduce travel burdens for atoll families.

President Dr. Muizzu praised healthcare professionals and NGOs for their vital support and advocacy, urging collective action to ensure every patient receives the care they need. On his X account, he reiterated the urgent need for awareness, prevention, and unified support amid ongoing cancer losses.
