Sri Lanka remains as one of Maldives' closest and most trusted friends: President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has conveyed warm Independence Day greetings to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya of Sri Lanka on the occasion of the island nation’s 78th Independence Anniversary, observed annually on 4 February to mark freedom from British colonial rule in 1948.
President Dr. Muizzu highlighted the centuries old bonds between the two nations on his X account, describing Sri Lanka as one of the Maldives' closest and most trusted friends while wishing the country enduring unity and resolve.
In separate letters to the Sri Lankan leaders, President Dr. Muizzu commended Sri Lanka’s ongoing resilience in pursuing economic stability, social harmony, and national progress.
He emphasized the deep, longstanding friendship between the Maldives and Sri Lanka, built on decades of cooperation and shared regional priorities.
The President expressed confidence that bilateral ties would continue to strengthen, particularly in areas of trade, development, and regional stability.
He extended personal best wishes for the health and wellbeing of both leaders, along with hopes for continued peace, progress, and prosperity for the Sri Lankan people.
