Ooredoo Maldives welcomes Shadi Qawasmi as new CEO
Shadi Qawasmi has been appointed as the new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Ooredoo Maldives, effective 1 February 2026.
He succeeds Khalid Al-Hamadi, who is transitioning to a new role within the Ooredoo Group.
Qawasmi brings over a decade of leadership experience in telecommunications, strategy, and brand management to the role.
He joined Ooredoo Group in 2015, serving previously as Chief Commercial Officer and Sales Director at Ooredoo Palestine, as well as Head of Brand and Communications.
In these positions, he led modernization efforts for marketing systems and introduced innovative technologies.
Before joining Ooredoo, Qawasmi built expertise in management consulting, business development, and marketing communications, focusing on enterprise strategy development, digital channel transitions, and large-scale transformation projects.
He holds a Master’s degree in Marketing Management from EDHEC Business School in France and a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing Communications from Brigham Young University in the United States.
Ooredoo Maldives expressed deep appreciation for outgoing CEO Khalid Al-Hamadi’s tenure, during which the company achieved numerous milestones.
Under his leadership, Ooredoo introduced the AI-powered customer care assistant “Evee”, expanded digital platforms, and partnered with services like Mastercard, TikTok, WhatsApp Business, and Viber.
The company also extended 4G+ coverage to 100 inhabited islands, launched 5G services across 80 islands, landed the PEACE submarine cable system, established a Tier-3 Data Center, and provided high-speed connectivity to resorts, including the Waldorf Astoria in Ithaafushi.
Additional highlights included setting a Guinness World Record for the largest underwater panel discussion on 3 May 2025 at Baa Fulhadhoo, opening an office in Hulhumalé, and facilitating critical services like air ambulances and emergency operations.
