Maafaru Airport emerges as leading International entry point after VIA
Maafaru International Airport has recorded the highest number of tourist arrivals among all international airports in the Maldives, excluding Velana International Airport (VIA), according to the latest statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism.
Data published today shows that VIA remains the country’s main gateway, welcoming 168,559 tourists as of January 24.
During the same period, Maafaru International Airport registered 627tourist arrivals, making it the second-busiest international entry point overall.
Other airports contributing to international arrivals include Gan International Airport, Hanimaadhoo International Airport, Villa International Airport, and Dhaalu Airport.
Maafaru International Airport has also strengthened its position as the Maldives’ leading hub for private jet operations.
The airport is frequently used by high-net-worth individuals travelling to luxury resorts in Raa and Baa Atolls, with many opting to park their private jets at the facility during their stay.
Overall, the Maldives has welcomed a total of 170,709 tourists so far this year, reflecting a 6.5 percent increase compared to the 160,224 arrivals recorded during the same period last year.
