The Maldives Police Service has launched an investigation into a physical altercation that occurred at the taxi queue of Velana International Airport (VIA).

Police action follows the circulation of a video on social media showing several individuals, believed to be foreign nationals, involved in a violent confrontation at the airport’s taxi stand.

Authorities confirmed that they received a report of the incident at approximately 12:15 a.m., after a verbal dispute reportedly escalated into physical violence.

According to police, individuals suspected of involvement in the disturbance have been summoned for questioning and issued cautions.

Investigations into the incident are currently ongoing.

It is important to note that airports worldwide operate under strict regulations, with serious consequences for acts of violence or disorderly behaviour, given the sensitive and high-security nature of such facilities.
