The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) and the Maldives Police Service have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to improve coordination and response during airport emergencies.

The agreement was signed by Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen on behalf of the Maldives Police Service, and by MACL Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed.

Under the MoU, both institutions will strengthen joint planning, clearly define operational responsibilities, and enhance real-time communication systems to ensure quicker and more effective responses to incidents.

The partnership also underscores a shared commitment to public safety and maintaining resilient airport operations.

The signing follows an incident at Velana International Airport two months ago, when a significant amount of US dollars was stolen during a robbery on October 27.

Four suspects were swiftly arrested in connection with the heist, with more later taken into custody and their remand extended as investigations continued, while police operations also led to the recovery of the suspected getaway speedboat used to flee the scene.
