President assures support for taxi drivers, emphasises registry reform

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has met with representatives of the Taxi Drivers’ Association to discuss key challenges facing the sector and measures to improve taxi services and urban mobility.

The meeting, held at the President’s Office today, focused on issues raised by taxi drivers, including service delivery, traffic congestion, and regulatory improvements.

Representatives of the Association shared proposals to enhance taxi vehicle registration and parking arrangements, noting improvements compared to previous systems.

Discussions also covered immediate changes needed in Malé City to help ease traffic congestion, as well as views on the government’s planned taxi service.

In addition, the Association highlighted the need for a comprehensive and structured registry for taxi drivers.

President Muizzu underscored the importance of maintaining an accurate and up-to-date registry for taxi drivers and outlined government plans to introduce additional facilities to support those working in the sector.

He assured the Association that the government would continue to engage closely with taxi drivers and relevant stakeholders to address their concerns and strengthen urban transport services.
