China reiterates support for Maldives’ development priorities during high-level meeting
China has reaffirmed its support for the Maldives’ development priorities during a high-level meeting held between Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the 14th National People’s Congress (NPC) of the People’s Republic of China, Wang Dongming, and President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
The courtesy meeting took place this morning at the President’s Office, where President Dr Muizzu expressed his sincere appreciation to Chinese President Xi Jinping for China’s continued assistance and cooperation, which have contributed to the Maldives’ economic and social development.
The President reiterated the Government’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations with China based on mutual trust and a long-standing partnership.
Discussions during the meeting focused on enhancing Maldives–China relations and expanding cooperation across key sectors aligned with the Maldives’ national development agenda.
Priority areas highlighted included housing and infrastructure development, fisheries and agriculture, tourism, connectivity, information technology, and trade.
Both sides also reviewed the progress of ongoing projects initiated under various Memoranda of Understanding and agreements signed during President Dr Muizzu’s official visits to China.
Vice Chairman Wang Dongming underscored the strong and friendly ties between the two countries, noting that bilateral relations have been further strengthened through recent high-level engagements.
He stated that the purpose of the delegation’s visit was to deepen cooperation for the mutual benefit of both nations and reaffirmed China’s commitment to implementing the comprehensive strategic partnership.
The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to strengthening Maldives–China relations and advancing cooperation across priority development sectors.
Vice Chairman Wang Dongming was accompanied by a senior delegation from the National People’s Congress of China.
