New Maldives Ambassador to Japan vows to strengthen bilateral ties and boost development opportunities
New Maldives Ambassador to Japan, Ahmed Mahloof has expressed gratitude for his appointment, pledging to work toward strengthening the long-standing ties between the two nations.
In a message posted on X, Mahloof said he was honoured to receive the appointment and thanked President Dr Mohamed Muizzu for entrusting him with the role.
He also extended appreciation to Members of Parliament from PNC, MDP, MDA, and JP for unanimously endorsing his nomination during the parliamentary vote.
Mahloof noted that this year marks 58 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Japan, describing Japan as a close and reliable partner in the country’s development.
He added that he would explore all opportunities to further enhance cooperation and contribute to the Maldives’ progress.
I will work hard to strengthen our long-standing relationship with Japan and to explore every opportunity that would contribute to the development of Maldives.

He also reached out to Maldivians living in or travelling to Japan, encouraging them to contact the embassy whenever support is needed.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu formally appointed Mahloof as Ambassador to Japan on Thursday at a ceremony held at the President’s Office.
The appointment was made in accordance with the Foreign Service Act and followed parliamentary approval granted on 3 December.
