Media-led “Maldivians with Ceylon” telethon successfully concludes
The nationwide “Ceylon Aaeku Dhiveheen” - "Maldivians with Ceylon" telethon in support of Sri Lanka has concluded with strong public and institutional participation, raising significant funds for disaster relief.
The campaign was organised by state media company PSM and brought together 37 media outlets in a joint effort to mobilise donations.
Running from 9:00 a.m. on 30 November, the telethon drew contributions from individual citizens, government ministries, state agencies, private companies, clubs, associations, offices and media organisations.
In total, the drive collected MVR 11.4 million and USD 43,000, with collections handled under the oversight of independent audit firm Crowe Maldives.
Fund boxes were placed at multiple locations across Malé, Hulhumalé and Villingili, while separate facilities were arranged for those preferring to donate via bank transfer.
The Maldivian Police Service emerged as the single largest contributor, donating MVR 2.4 million, while organisations such as the International Aid Campaign also extended multimillion‑rufiyaa support.
The Sri Lankan government has welcomed the initiative and expressed appreciation to the Maldivian people for being the first to launch a national relief effort in response to the crisis.
