Male' City Council to impose fines against people who litter on the streets
Male’ City Council has decided to impose fines on people who leave trash on the streets.
The City Council stated on Tuesday the decision to introduce penalties for littering under the Decentralization Act and Act on Countering Violation of Community Standards.
We will start enforcing the penalties starting from Fridays
According to the announcements by the city council
Last year, the city council created standards for delivering community monitoring and security services in Male.
In the five months since the policy was established, the municipal council had been issuing warnings instead of tougher sanctions to those who had been littering.
The city council announced that starting on Friday, anybody who incurs a fine for littering will not be able to use any council services unless they pay the fine.
The municipal council requested that reports of littering and community standards infractions be sent to the council's hotline number, 1622.
