The People’s National Congress (PNC) parliamentary group has contributed MVR 300,000 to Sri Lanka as part of emergency relief efforts through the nationwide telethon “Ceylon Aaeku Dhiveheen” – “Maldivians with Ceylon.”

The donation was presented by PNC Chairperson and Speaker of the People’s Majlis, Abdul Raheem Abdulla, together with PNC Parliamentary Group Leader Ibrahim Falah and other parliamentarians.

Deputy Managing Director of PSM Abdulla Yameen Rasheed accepted the cheque on behalf of the telethon organizers.

Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla highlighted the devastating impact of the crisis in Sri Lanka, including widespread displacement, loss of lives, and damage to homes and livelihoods.

He conveyed condolences to the affected families and emphasized Sri Lanka’s close ties with the Maldives, noting that many Maldivians reside in or frequently travel to the country.

He commended President Dr Mohamed Muizzu for initiating swift assistance through the Maldivian government and acknowledged Ambassador Masood Imad’s immediate response to the Sri Lankan Government’s request for aid.

Abdul Raheem reaffirmed PNC’s solidarity with the Sri Lankan people and urged Maldivians to extend support within their means.

PNC Group Leader Ibrahim Falah also expressed deep sympathy, describing the Sri Lankan crisis as one shared by all Maldivians.

He thanked President Dr. Muizzu for his leadership and the PNC parliamentary group for their collective contribution, describing the donation as a symbol of unity and the enduring friendship between the two nations.

The PNC’s donation stands as a reflection of the Maldives’ longstanding bilateral relations with Sri Lanka and its commitment to stand by its neighbor in times of hardship.
