President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu departed for the United Kingdom last night to attend a High-Level Briefing on Private Capital Mobilisation, held under the Sustainable Markets Initiative (SMI) at the invitation of King Charles III.

The exclusive forum will convene a select group of global leaders, including heads of major multilateral development banks and senior executives from leading financial institutions.

The discussions will focus on mobilising large-scale private investment to advance sustainable development and accelerate climate transition efforts through strengthened international cooperation. The meeting is also expected to spotlight innovative financing models that could benefit climate-vulnerable nations such as the Maldives.

The Sustainable Markets Initiative established by King Charles III works to harness private-sector influence to drive environmentally responsible economic growth. Bringing together chief executives, policymakers and international decision-makers, the platform aims to elevate sustainability as a central pillar of global commerce and encourage long-term strategies aligned with national climate goals and the 1.5°C pathway.

President Muizzu’s participation underscores the Maldives’ expanding role in global climate finance diplomacy at a time when new capital flows are vital for resilience building, adaptation measures, and a secure economic transition.
