The Ministry of Social and Family Development has joined forces with the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) to establish a second community centre for senior citizens in Hulhumale’, further enhancing the support network for elderly residents in the area.

The partnership agreement was formalized at a ceremony held at the Umar Zahir Building, marking a significant advancement in elder care services.

Expected to be completed within two years, the new centre will be equipped with modern facilities tailored to the needs of seniors, including regular health screenings, specialised medical services, and dedicated zones for mental relaxation.

The design also features outdoor recreational areas and a reading lounge, fostering both physical and emotional well-being.

Minister of State for Social and Family Development Ibrahim Ismail Ali and HDC Managing Director Ali Zuhair signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations.

Authorities highlighted that this initiative reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to improving the quality of life for senior citizens by providing accessible, high-quality care and promoting healthy lifestyles.

The new project builds on the success of Hulhumale’s first elderly community centre, which began offering services earlier this year.
