Gold and Silver for Maldives at Zambia International 2025: President Celebrates Athletes’ Success
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has extended heartfelt congratulations to Maldivian athletes who achieved remarkable success at the Zambia International 2025 badminton tournament, posting his commendation on his official X account.
Maldives’ representatives, Fathimath Nabaha Abdul Razzaq and Hussain Zayan Shaheed Zaki, secured the gold medal in the Mixed Doubles category.
This victory marks the talented pair’s second Badminton World Federation (BWF) title as a team, and represents the fifth BWF gold medal ever won by a Maldivian athlete.
In a thrilling final in Lusaka, they triumphed over Egypt’s Izzat Kareem Mahmood and Noor Ahmed Yousri in two closely contested sets, 21–18 and 22–20.
In addition to her gold medal, Nabaha, alongside Aminath Nabeeha Abdul Razzaq, advanced to the final in the Women’s Doubles category.
The Maldivian duo won silver after facing South Africa’s Amy Ackerman and Johanita Scholtz, who prevailed with scores of 21–16, 21–14.
The president’s message celebrated the athletes’ dedication and brought national attention to their outstanding sporting achievements on an international stage.
