Maldives marks Palestinian independence anniversary with renewed call for sovereign state
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has conveyed warm greetings to the leadership and people of Palestine on the Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence of the State of Palestine.
In his message to President Mahmoud Abbas, President Dr Muizzu extended the heartfelt felicitations of the Government and the people of the Maldives.
He expressed deep admiration for the Palestinian people’s enduring courage in the face of oppression and injustice, noting that their steadfast resilience reflects the legitimacy and dignity of their struggle for freedom and statehood.
The President reiterated the Maldives’ unwavering solidarity with Palestine and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to advocating for an independent and sovereign Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as the capital.
He expressed confidence that the long-standing relationship between the Maldives and Palestine would continue to strengthen in the years ahead.
In a separate letter to Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa, President Dr Muizzu commended the unity and determination of the Palestinian people despite ongoing adversity.
He underscored the Maldives’ dedication to supporting peace, justice, and security for Palestine, emphasizing the close bonds shared between the two nations founded on friendship and shared values.
The President also extended personal good wishes for the continued health and wellbeing of both Palestinian leaders, and for lasting peace and prosperity for the Palestinian people.
Reiterating his sentiments on his official X account, President Dr Muizzu emphasized the Maldives’ steadfast support for Palestine and called on the international community to intensify efforts toward the establishment of a sovereign and independent Palestinian state.
On this Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence of the State of Palestine, I wish to emphasise the Maldives’ continued commitment to support the Palestinian cause for statehood and self-determination. The Maldives will always stand in solidarity with our Palestinian brothers and sisters. We call on the international community to never falter in its calls for the just establishment of a sovereign State of Palestine based on pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital
He wrote
