President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has reiterated that the Maldives will continue to foster strong diplomatic relations with all nations except Israel, citing the country’s ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people.

Speaking at a PNC gathering on Friday night, the President emphasized that the Maldives’ foreign policy is grounded in building and strengthening partnerships with countries both near and far.

Whether they are close to us or on the opposite side of the world, large nations or small, the Maldives will maintain close relations with every country except Israel. As long as Israel continues its oppression of Palestinians, Israelis are not welcome in the Maldives

President stated

He noted that the government’s decision to ban Israeli passports was taken in alignment with public sentiment.

According to the President, Maldivians do not want individuals who contribute to the suffering of Palestinians to enjoy the country’s natural beauty and hospitality.

President further revealed that he faced considerable pressure while advancing the ban on Israeli passports, with critics warning that the move could harm the tourism sector.

However, he stressed that in a democratic society, policymaking must reflect the will of the people.

There were strong objections, including predictions that the tourism industry would collapse,But this is a democracy, and decisions should move forward in accordance with the people’s wishes.

He added

The legislation banning entry to the Maldives using Israeli passports was approved by Parliament on April 15 and ratified by the President the same day.

The decision has been welcomed by numerous members of the international community.
