Maldives Hails Major Success at World Travel Market 2025 in London

The Maldives has marked a significant success at this year’s World Travel Market (WTM) in London, with Tourism and Environment Minister Thoriq Ibrahim expressing optimism that the event will drive a new wave of tourist arrivals to the island nation.

In a video message delivered on the final day of the prestigious global travel exhibition, Minister Thoriq said the Maldives’ participation had been “a major triumph,” noting that the momentum from WTM 2025 would serve as a catalyst for further growth in the tourism sector.

The Maldives was represented by a strong delegation of 160 participants from 70 businesses, showcasing the country’s vibrant tourism industry.

The 650-square-metre Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC) stand, designed to capture the essence of the Maldives’ natural beauty and luxury hospitality, drew significant attention throughout the three-day event.

Minister Thoriq, who attended the exhibition in person, underscored the importance of the UK market, describing it as one of the Maldives’ most valuable and fastest-growing tourism sources.

He highlighted that the success of this year’s participation was bolstered by a series of high-level meetings held during the event.

We met with the tourism ministers of Türkiye and Greece to discuss ways to boost tourist arrivals from those countries

Minister Thoriq noted

 adding that productive talks were also held with leading airlines, including British Airways and Virgin Atlantic, to enhance flight connectivity and strengthen promotion efforts.

Minister Thoriq affirmed that the government’s continued efforts to promote the Maldives as a top-tier global destination are producing tangible outcomes, helping elevate the nation’s tourism industry to new heights.

The United Kingdom currently stands as the Maldives’ third-largest source market for tourists, with 159,615 arrivals recorded as of October 2025 a 16 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
