President Dr. Muizzu Urges Workplace Safety After Fatal MPL Port Accident
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has called for greater attention to workplace safety following a tragic accident at the Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) area that claimed the lives of two employees.
In a message shared on social media, the President expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased Ali Aflah Abdullah and Masood Hussain as well as to the management and staff of MPL.
He prayed to Almighty Allah to grant the victims eternal blessings of Paradise.
President Muizzu further urged authorities to prioritize worker safety across all occupational settings to prevent similar incidents in the future, stressing that employee well-being must remain a national priority.
According to MPL, the accident occurred on Sunday, when a landing craft capsized near the Malé Commercial Port. In addition to the two fatalities, several others sustained injuries and were transported to hospital for treatment. An internal investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the incident.
