On Türkiye’s Republic Day, President Muizzu reaffirms commitment to strong bilateral ties
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has expressed confidence in Türkiye’s expanding international partnerships, describing them as vital to promoting global peace and prosperity.
In a message shared on social media to mark Türkiye’s Republic Day, President Muizzu extended heartfelt congratulations to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the government, and the people of Türkiye.
I wish for continued socioeconomic progress for the people of Türkiye and trust that Türkiye’s partnerships for peace and prosperity across the globe, including with the Maldives, will remain mutually beneficial,
President Muizzu stated.
Under President Muizzu’s administration, relations between the Maldives and Türkiye have seen notable growth, strengthened through high-level visits and strategic cooperation. His official visit to Türkiye in November 2023 reaffirmed both nations’ commitment to advancing bilateral collaboration.
Defence ties between the two countries were further reinforced in August 2025, when the Türkiye Navy transferred the naval vessel Dharumavantha to the Maldives National Defence Force, a gesture symbolising deepening military cooperation and mutual trust.
Parliamentary and military exchanges have also played a key role in fostering closer ties.
In June 2025, a delegation from the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye’s Türkiye–Maldives Interparliamentary Friendship Group visited Malé. This was followed in August by the visit of Admiral Kadir Yıldız, Commander of the Türkiye Navy Fleet, further consolidating the defence and diplomatic partnership between the two nations.
