Police seize getaway launch, remand four in Airport robbery case

Police have made significant progress in the investigation of the daring cash robbery at Velana International Airport, announcing the seizure of the escape launch used in the heist and the remand of four suspects in connection with the case.

According to the Maldives Police Service, the vessel allegedly used to flee the scene after the robbery has been located and brought under police control.

Forensic examinations are now underway as part of ongoing evidence collection.

Authorities confirmed that four men have been arrested and remanded in custody for five days pending further investigation.

The suspects are identified as:

Mazin Moosa, 25, Raysham, L. Maavah

Ahmed Raihaan Naeem, 20, M. Koras, Malé City

Ibrahim Anoof, 24, Alivilage, K. Guraidhoo

Hussain Shahudh, 30, Alivilage, K. Guraidhoo

The robbery occurred in the early hours of October 27 along the walkway connecting the old terminal to Terminal 1.

Masked assailants reportedly ambushed Bank of Maldives (BML) employees who were transporting a briefcase containing a large sum of US dollars meant for currency exchange operations for departing passengers.

Police stated that updates will be shared as more details become available, noting that investigators are focused on tracing the stolen cash and identifying any additional individuals linked to the crime.
