President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has achieved a historic milestone, becoming the first Maldivian Head of State to visit every inhabited island in the country completing the feat in just one year and eleven months.

The President concluded his nationwide tour on Sunday with a visit to K. Thulusdhoo, the final stop of a two-day journey that covered all inhabited islands in Faadhippolhu and three in Maaleatholhu.

With this, President Muizzu has visited all 187 inhabited islands and cities, and revisited 63 of them during his term.

The last time a sitting President completed a similar tour was 42 years ago, when President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom did so over five years.

The President’s swift completion of the nationwide visits highlights the administration’s active approach to governance and commitment to development through direct community engagement.

Throughout his travels, President Muizzu met with Island Councils, Women’s Development Committees, and residents to discuss local priorities and identify ways to accelerate projects.

Accompanied by Cabinet Ministers and heads of State-Owned Enterprises, he ensured that up-to-date information on ongoing and planned initiatives was shared on-site, reducing bureaucratic delays and the need for island representatives to travel to Malé.

These visits facilitated key service expansions, including the extension of Bank of Maldives ATM coverage to every inhabited island by the end of this month, the establishment of resident police services across all islands fulfilling a major pledge and the introduction of National ID and passport services in every atoll.

During his travels, the President also inaugurated and launched numerous island-specific projects in housing, education, healthcare, and infrastructure, reflecting his focus on translating pledges into progress.

He personally visited local institutions such as hospitals, schools, mosques, and sports facilities to observe conditions and engage with community members.

President Muizzu described these tours as part of his vision for a more decentralised and inclusive Maldives, ensuring that no island or community is left behind in the nation’s development journey.
