FIFA President applauds President Dr. Muizzu’s commitment to transforming Maldivian football
President of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), Gianni Infantino, paid a courtesy call on President Dr Mohamed Muizzu at the President’s Office on Friday evening.
During the meeting, President Muizzu reaffirmed his Administration’s dedication to transforming football in the Maldives, describing it as the nation’s most cherished sport and a powerful symbol of unity.
He briefed Infantino on the Government’s ongoing efforts to enhance sports infrastructure, including new and upgraded facilities planned across various islands over the coming years.
President Muizzu also expressed his full support for the Football Association of Maldives (FAM) and its leadership in revitalizing the sport at both grassroots and professional levels.
FIFA President Infantino commended the Government’s vision and the progress made under the new FAM administration, acknowledging the challenges Maldivian football has faced in recent years.
He pledged FIFA’s continued cooperation and technical support to advance football development nationwide.
Infantino further highlighted the importance of investing in youth and talent development, noting that such initiatives would enable the Maldives to gain recognition not only for its natural beauty but also for its sporting achievements.
The discussions concluded with both leaders affirming a shared commitment to expanding football opportunities in the Maldives and strengthening collaboration between FIFA and the FAM in the years ahead.
