Speaking with residents of Laamu Maavah during his visit to the atoll on Monday morning, President Muizzu reiterated his administration’s commitment to delivering on the pledge to build another airport in the region.

The best way to promote tourism is to build an airport near where many resorts can be developed. That’s my thinking on this matter,

the President stated

describing the project as one that would be pursued in a “long-term and economically sustainable” manner.

While acknowledging that Maavah residents have long advocated for an airport nearby, President Muizzu stated that the final decision on the specific island has not yet been made but will be announced soon.
