Maldives and Egypt sign agreement to enhance political cooperation
The Maldives and Egypt have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Political Consultations, formalizing the consultation mechanism established between the two countries since 2019.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the MoU aims to strengthen bilateral dialogue and cooperation in the political sphere and enhance coordination on matters of mutual interest.
The signing took place during the official visit of Maldivian Foreign Minister Dr. Abdulla Khaleel to Egypt.
The MoU was signed by Dr. Khaleel on behalf of the Maldives and Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdelatty on behalf of Egypt.
During their meeting, the two ministers reaffirmed the long-standing friendship between the Maldives and Egypt and held discussions on ways to expand cooperation across multiple areas, including development and foreign policy coordination.
The Foreign Ministry stated that the visit reflects the shared commitment of both countries to strengthen their historic ties and advance collaboration through structured diplomatic engagement.
Foreign Minister Dr. Khaleel was accompanied by Dr. Hala Hameed, Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Khadheeja Najeeha, Additional Secretary.
