Maldives to launch national initiative to train teachers in AI integration
Minister of Education Dr. Ismail Shafeeu has announced that a nationwide campaign to train teachers in using Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools across all subjects will be launched next year.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the Principals’ Conference held at Crossroads Maldives today, Minister Shafeeu said the initiative aims to strengthen teachers’ capacity to integrate technology effectively into the classroom.
The conference was inaugurated by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
Dr. Shafeeu highlighted that while schools play a key role in equipping students with life skills, it is equally important to cultivate curiosity and critical thinking among them.
He emphasized that teachers must be trained to nurture these qualities in students to ensure they pursue meaningful academic and professional paths after graduation.
He further revealed that as part of ongoing professional development efforts, the Ministry of Education plans to organize training sessions during Ramadan next year.
These sessions will focus on helping teachers apply AI tools in teaching various subjects and enhancing their technical competencies.
The minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to preparing educators for the future of learning through innovative and technology-driven approaches.
