The Elections Commission (EC) has announced the election of four members to the newly established Maldives Media and Broadcasting Commission without a formal voting process.

According to the EC, the number of eligible candidates representing both the broadcasting and online media categories matched the available seats after one candidate withdrew their nomination ahead of the scheduled election on Saturday.

As a result, two representatives from each category were elected unopposed to the seven-member commission, which has been formed to oversee and regulate the country’s media sector.

The members elected under the Broadcasting category are:

- Abdul Azeez Ibrahim, Moonimaage / Sh. Feydhoo

- Zam’ath Ahmed Waheed, Mala / GDh. Thinadhoo

The members elected under the Online Media category are:

- Simaha Naseem, Valleyge / GDh. Rathafandhoo

- Hussain Sageef, Hisan / HDh. Vaikaradhoo

With four members confirmed, the Elections Commission stated that there will be no need to hold elections on Saturday as initially planned.
