Bangladesh’s Dr. Nazmul Islam assumes role as High Commissioner to Maldives
The new High Commissioner of Bangladesh to the Maldives, Dr. Md. Nazmul Islam, presented his Letter of Credence to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu at a ceremony held this afternoon at the President’s Office.
Dr. Nazmul Islam was escorted from Republic Square to the President’s Office in a traditional Haiykolhu cultural procession, accompanied by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Drum and Trumpet Band.
Following the credential presentation, President Muizzu and the Bangladeshi High Commissioner reviewed the enduring friendship between the two nations, emphasizing the deep-rooted people-to-people connections and the history of mutual support that define Maldives–Bangladesh relations.
Discussions during the meeting focused on strengthening cooperation in key areas such as agriculture, economic development, higher education, and trade and investment. Both sides expressed their shared commitment to further enhancing bilateral relations for the mutual benefit of the two countries.
The Maldives and Bangladesh established formal diplomatic relations on 22 September 1978.
