President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has pledged to resolve long-standing concerns of unpaid dues owed to Maldivian businesses, announcing that all pending payments will be settled within the next five weeks.

The announcement was made tonight in a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), where the President highlighted the scale of the issue he inherited upon assuming office on 17 November 2023.
He stated that thousands of bills for services provided by Maldivian companies to the government and state-owned enterprises had remained unpaid at the time.

President Muizzu assured that all such payments, once verified in line with legal and regulatory requirements, will be cleared within the announced timeframe.
He described the move as a “significant achievement” in the government’s wider efforts to revive an economy that was “in a deep pit” when his administration took office.

Local businesses have repeatedly voiced concern over mounting unpaid bills, stressing that the delays have disrupted operations and left many companies struggling to stay afloat.
Industry groups and service providers had been urging the government to expedite payments for several months.

The President’s assurance marks a concrete deadline for resolving the issue, bringing renewed hope for stability and liquidity within the Maldivian business sector.
