95th Saudi National Day marked in Maldives with renewed commitment to partnership

The Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Malé commemorated the Kingdom’s 95th National Day with a reception at Barcelo Hotel on last Tuesday evening, attended by senior government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, and distinguished guests.

Speaking at the ceremony, Saudi Ambassador Yahya Hassan Alqahtani underscored the longstanding friendship between the two nations, noting that diplomatic ties were formally established on 17 March 1981.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of Maldives share a history of close friendship and brotherhood… and today, I can proudly say that our relationship is growing stronger day by day under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and His Excellency President Mohamed Muizzu

He stated

The Ambassador emphasized that the bond between Saudi Arabia and the Maldives goes beyond traditional diplomacy.

This is not only a diplomatic partnership — it is a true brotherhood between two nations

He stated

adding that the relationship is built on “respect, trust, and our shared Islamic values.”

Ambassador Alqahtani also highlighted the wide scope of cooperation between the two countries, reaffirming Saudi Arabia’s support for the Maldives across key sectors.

Saudi Arabia stands with the Maldives in every key sector — from the development of infrastructure, healthcare, fisheries, agriculture, aviation, tourism, education, youth development, and renewable energy to the protection of our environment. And in norms, peace, and stability, we remain committed partners in upholding sovereignty and cooperation,

He further stressed the importance of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 as a driving force for international collaboration.

Under Vision 2030, Saudi Arabia is building new opportunities for cooperation and international partnership,

He noted

 expressing appreciation for the Maldives’ support in these efforts.

 Saudi Arabia and the Maldives share over four decades of close relations rooted in Islamic values and mutual respect. Over the years, the Kingdom has contributed significantly to infrastructure and tourism development in the Maldives, while the Maldives has supported Saudi Arabia’s leadership in the Islamic world and its role in promoting peace and development globally.

With Saudi Arabia advancing Vision 2030 and the Maldives pursuing sustainable growth, the bilateral partnership continues to serve as a model of constructive engagement in the region.
