China a consistent ally in promoting sustainability and fairness: President
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has praised China as a steadfast partner of the Maldives and other small island states in advancing sustainability, resilience, and fairness in the global arena.
He made the remarks on Monday evening at a reception held to commemorate the 79th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, which coincided with the Mid-Autumn Festival.
Extending his warmest greetings to President Xi Jinping, the Chinese government, and the people of China on their National Day, President Muizzu expressed the Maldives’ deep appreciation for China’s commitment to multilateralism and its efforts to safeguard the rights of developing nations.
He also noted Beijing’s willingness to work alongside the Maldives in shaping “a world where no country, however small, is left behind.”
Reflecting on China’s national journey, President Muizzu described it as a story of vision, perseverance, and human potential.
He underscored that the relationship between the Maldives and China goes beyond formal agreements, rooted instead in trust, shared experiences, and genuine friendship.
He highlighted China’s contributions to the Maldives, citing infrastructure such as bridges and housing projects, as well as educational opportunities that empower Maldivian youth.
The President also pointed to the steady flow of Chinese tourists to the Maldives as a “living bridge” between the two nations.
Concluding his address, President Muizzu reaffirmed the Maldives’ commitment to strengthening bilateral ties in politics, trade, culture, and education, while working together with China toward a sustainable and prosperous future.
