President Dr. Muizzu unveils higher Credit Card limits
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced significant changes to the dollar spending limits on Bank of Maldives (BML) credit cards, effective 1 February 2026.
Under the revised limits, Classic cards will see an increase from USD 750 to USD 1,400, while Gold cards will rise from USD 750 to USD 1,500.
Platinum cardholders will also benefit from an increased limit, moving from USD 1,500 to USD 2,000.
President Dr. Muizzu revealed these positive changes in a post he shared on 'X'.
The move comes as part of broader government efforts to ease access to US dollars in the Maldives.
Authorities have introduced new requirements for tourism-related businesses to deposit and exchange portions of their foreign currency earnings with local banks.
As per the amended foreign exchange regulations by the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), tourism companies are required to exchange either USD 500 per tourist per month or 20 percent of their monthly income in US dollars.
Guesthouses must exchange USD 25 per guest or 20 percent of their monthly US dollar revenue.
The government anticipates that these measures will strengthen foreign currency availability, with improvements expected by the end of this year.
