Police have arrested four individuals in connection with the smuggling of illegal items into the Maldives.

A Police Media Official said three premises were searched today under a court order, leading to the discovery of a large quantity of items prohibited from being imported into the country.

The seized items have since been taken into police custody.

Police further confirmed that social media channels used to market and sell these items were also shut down as part of the operation.

Authorities have not disclosed the nature of the items seized or provided further details about the ongoing investigation.
