President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu departed for Qatar to participate in the Emergency Arab-Islamic Summit, convened in Doha on September 15 in response to Israel’s September 9 attack.

During the visit, President Dr. Muizzu will deliver a statement reaffirming the Maldives’ solidarity with Qatar and its commitment to defending the rights of the Palestinian people.

The summit, bringing together leaders from the 57-member Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the 22-member Arab League, aims to coordinate a collective response to Israeli aggression.

Leaders will debate possible measures to end the ongoing violence, with a strongly worded joint statement against Israel widely expected.

Israel said its strikes targeted Hamas leadership in Doha, where members were meeting to discuss a US brokered peace proposal by President Donald Trump.

The attack reverberated across the Middle East, further escalating tensions.

Regional security concerns will also dominate the agenda.

Continued Israeli strikes in Gaza, the West Bank, and across countries including Iran, Syria, Lebanon, and Yemen have raised fears of broader instability.
