Lorry Driver arrested over Thilafushi accident released after Police fail to submit evidence
The court has released the lorry driver arrested in connection with Thursday’s serious accident in K. Thilafushi, citing the police’s failure to submit corroborating evidence.
The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Indian national Vignesh Annadhurai, was arrested on suspicion of fleeing the scene after a Sri Lankan expatriate was run over by a lorry.
Police said the incident occurred at approximately 2:15 p.m. near Highmark, when the Sri Lankan man was struck by the vehicle and sustained serious injuries.
Despite the allegations, the court ordered Vignesh’s release on Friday night without any conditions, after determining that the police had not provided sufficient supporting evidence.
The injured expatriate is currently receiving treatment in a ward at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).
