China has firmly stood with the Maldives to support fiscal and financial stability: Ambassador Kong Xianhua
Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives, Kong Xianhua, has reaffirmed Beijing’s commitment to supporting the Maldives’ economy, highlighting that debt relief measures are already in effect.
Speaking at a press conference in Malé,
China has firmly stood with the Maldives to provide support to maintain fiscal and financial stability of this beautiful country
Ambassador Kong Xianhua stated
He explained that the debt arrangement between the two nations had come into effect late last year, noting that it is highly concessional and does not add to the country’s debt burden.
The arrangement is very concessional, without extra cost, without enhancing debt ratio, and already in effect since the end of last year
the ambassador added.
Ambassador also highlighted China’s growing role in the Maldives’ development, pointing to three major projects, the Villimale’ Hospital, the redevelopment of the Male’-Villimale’ road, and the construction of 50 island council buildings — which are being fully financed through Chinese grant aid.
In addition, the ambassador noted that recent agreements signed between the two countries will focus on fisheries, renewable energy, agriculture, and vocational education.
He stressed that China aims to move beyond grant aid, encouraging investment and cooperation in key sectors to strengthen long-term economic ties.
Ambassador Kong said the partnership reflects the strong political trust between the two nations, reiterating that China will continue to support the Maldives’ sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity.
