The Maldivian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that boarding at Nepal’s Kathmandu Airport, which was temporarily suspended earlier, has now resumed.

The Ministry issued the clarification following social media rumors claiming that two Maldivians were stranded at the airport while attempting to depart.

Speaking to 'Voice', a Foreign Ministry official explained that while boarding was briefly halted due to the situation at the airport, normal operations have since resumed.

The official also noted that the Ministry is closely monitoring the safety and situation of Maldivians currently in Nepal.

Nepal has been gripped by escalating protests in the capital Kathmandu after the government moved to ban social media platforms.

The demonstrations turned violent, resulting in at least 19 deaths within the past 24 hours.

In response to the mounting unrest, the Nepalese government later reinstated access to social media during the night.
