President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has established a new state-owned company to oversee the procurement and distribution of pharmaceuticals and medical supplies across the Maldives.

According to the President’s Office, the State Pharmaceutical and Medical Supply Corporation Ltd was created under Article 15 of the Companies Act.

The corporation, fully owned by the government, will be tasked with importing medicines, medical consumables, and medical equipment in bulk, and ensuring their distribution to healthcare facilities nationwide.

The President’s Office noted that these responsibilities have so far been handled by the State Trading Organization (STO), and the formation of the new company marks a structural shift in the management of essential medical supplies.
